2 Page Spread

Our second drawing project was to find a 2 page spread for inspiration in a magazine and then make our own rendition of it. Here is my final product. It was not supposed to be an exact replica, we were just taking the same layout and contributing 'first week back at school' things. As you can see, the original layout had grass on the left hand side and then it repeated itself in the lettering of 'hello' on the opposite side. That's what I did as well with the words from the left being transferred to my name on the right. The other things in the layout are fairly self-explanatory.

I think the main point of this assignment was to see the layout, or compostion, in an already printed format. Also, how it works in the context of the magazine. We talked about how Vogue, for example, would have a completely different style compared to Architectural Digest. For me, Vogue is more my style. Somewhat relaxed but then also classy a some points.

  1. I like your composition! It feels very fresh and springy and light! You took the transition from the magazine layout to your sketchbook very literal. Maybe a little more abstract or edgy next time?

  2. you displayed your inspiration very well! maybe color would liven it up like the layout you chose to recreate! also, make your "hello" part more obvious in the layout because all the writing on the left overcomes your layout. good job as always :)

  3. Great job! I really enjoyed that you took what they did with the grass and transformed it into your own thing. Very nice!
