Real Life

This was from a long time ago...When, in Suzanne's class, we drew moments of this building that was assigned to us. But, we wern't just drawing them, we were to pick 5 different artists and try to mimic their style with our sketches to. Well, I have to admit I did not do a very nice job on some of them. BUT I learned what wasn't my style. I learned that I really like drawing with a smooth, soft pencil and being able to smudge the lines. I have below the 5 of the artists' drawings and 5 of mine. I labeled them so you could tell which is which (though you probably can tell already)!

In Living Color

In Suzanne's class a few weeks back, we were first asked to draw a 12ftx36ft space including a living area, dining area and kitchen. We constructed a graph to actually trace the space onto and then use a different media on a 4th of the drawing. So I started (on the left) with colored pencil on bond paper. Then I used marker on charcoal paper. The third one is watercolors on watercolor paper. Then the last one is marker and colored pencil on normal printer paper.
After the first one, we received feedback on them and then were told to get someone else's and make it better. use basically the same space, get inspired by something of the other person's work, and design. I had Michelle's space and She had a picture of the flower on the wall beside the dinning room but I wanted it on the whole wall as a focal point. This is my rendition!
And here is everybody's!

First Design

We were asked to simply design an open space with a dining, living, and kitchen area. The fist drawing above is the first space I designed. Then, the second part of the project was to take someone elses design, receive inspiration from it in some way, and then design their room again, better than before. Of the second two, the first is the beginning of the second one, which is the final design. I had alot of fun working with markers in this drawing. This is my first big attempt at markers, but I am proud of it!

Inspiration Styles

Continuing with our thumbnails from the previous post, I looked up 5 different artist's work to inspire and imitate within my own sketches. The first 5 here are other artist's work. The second 5 are my own renditions of their work, just manipulated to the sketches of the education building that I was asked to do. I am looking forward to trying out new styles for this assignment. I do not have my own style, persay, and since I am in the beginning stages of drawing, I can continue to work with different styles until I find my own.
The other artist's are as follows...
1. Samantha Zaza
2. Kurt D. Hollomon
3. Keelung
4. Barbara Weeks
5. James Hobbs .............thank you to them!

2 Page Spread

Our second drawing project was to find a 2 page spread for inspiration in a magazine and then make our own rendition of it. Here is my final product. It was not supposed to be an exact replica, we were just taking the same layout and contributing 'first week back at school' things. As you can see, the original layout had grass on the left hand side and then it repeated itself in the lettering of 'hello' on the opposite side. That's what I did as well with the words from the left being transferred to my name on the right. The other things in the layout are fairly self-explanatory.

I think the main point of this assignment was to see the layout, or compostion, in an already printed format. Also, how it works in the context of the magazine. We talked about how Vogue, for example, would have a completely different style compared to Architectural Digest. For me, Vogue is more my style. Somewhat relaxed but then also classy a some points.

The New Semester

The start of a new semester! We got right into it again and we started working with watercolors. I was really excited to start! I had seen the second year's drawings with water color added and it just really adds to the drawing or sketch. This was my first go at it and I am happily suprised
that it turned out they way it did. I am proud of my first attempt...what do you think?
